China’s first dedicated mandatory standard GB 4806.16-2025 for food-contact silicone will take effect on Sep 2, 2026. Stricter migration limits apply to baby silicone products. Manufacturers should complete relevant testing and upgrade formulas to avoid export risks.
Full Text GB 4806.16-2025, the National Food Safety Standard for Food-contact Silicone Rubber Materials and Products, will be officially enforced on September 2, 2026. It is China’s first mandatory national standard specially formulated for food-contact silicone. The new standard tightens substance migration limits for infant silicone products and imposes stricter controls on low-molecular siloxane and heavy metal precipitation, raising testing standards for silicone baking molds, ice trays, baby tableware and similar products.
Industry insiders point out that the implementation will phase out production lines adopting low-quality peroxide-cured silicone. Platinum-catalyzed food-grade silicone will become the mainstream production option. Silicone manufacturers serving domestic markets and exporting to Southeast Asia and South America are advised to finish third-party CMA testing, update raw material formulas and molding processes promptly to prevent shipment risks. Factories with complete in-house compliance labs and stable food-grade silicone supply chains will enjoy greater competitive advantages.
